When I bought my used WANHAO Duplicator 4 it also included 2 reels of PLA. I hope you do not mind me asking another question though. If I set up Octoprint would that benefit me in terms of communication with the printer for example from MakerBot or similar? Is this something I should be looking into from the beginning? If I upgrade to Sailfish 7.7 would that "change" the specs of the printer as far as Simplif圓d or other equivalent software is concerned? Would it be worth investing $150 to make my life considerably simpler and get a smoother start to 3D printing? Does it mean that it would automatically know all there is to know about the specs of WANHAO Duplicator 4 and that it would be able to communicate with it and output X3G files that are correct for it? This one stands out as in a league for itself $150 but all say only good things about it and I checked that it "directly supports" WANHAO Duplicator 4. What do you suggest I should do to make my life easier with my WANHAO Duplicator 4 should I do the upgrade to Sailfish 7.7 and expect that things will be easier afterwards with the software?Īs you might imagine there is quite a bit of confusion in my head about the whole process and it is difficult to put things straight thus I am asking for a bit of support and direction to people who have more experience and have already gone through the painful process therefore any information you deem worth sharing is greatly appreciated. MakerBot 2.8.11., Repetier HOST 2.05 above in addition to fixing the bugs of firmware v 1.0? Would an upgrade to Sailfish 7.7 help my WANHAO Duplicator 4 to be able to communicate with any of the Cura 3.3.1. !searchin/wanhao-printer-3d/duplicator$204$20MAKERBOT|sort:date/wanhao-printer-3d/cWpZ06PWpBI/5pqWVORMAwAJ How to flash firmware Sailfish V7.7 to D4 series printer through AVR programmer? I have come across to posts where some people upgrade to Sailfish 7.7.ġ4. I also see that MatterControl lacks the ability to export to X3G files, does it mean then it would be the wrong choice to use MatterControl for modelling and slicing, should I prefer Cura instead?Īs I told you my WANHAO Duplicator 4 runs firmware version 1.o on its D4 mightyboard. I am not sure I understand what the EEProm mapping is supposed to be, whether it should apply in any way to WANHAO Duplicator 4 or what? You may need to wait a minute for your printer to finish initializing." There are no EEProm mapping for your printer. With MatterControl can successfully see the printer when I add one as Wanhao 4S and I can control axis and see the temperature of the bed etc. MakerBot 2.8.11., Repetier HOST 2.05 above can communicate with my printer over USB on COM3 they all just fail to see the printer. One big source of confusion for me is that none of Cura 3.3.1. Shows how to set up things for Wanhao Duplicator i3 but I believe the same would go for WANHAO Duplicator 4 as long as I take care to input the relevant data. However, in order for the X3G to make any sense ti the printer and result in correct printer I am supposed to provide any of this software with some kind of settings that describe to the software the specs of the WANHAO Duplicator 4. I understand that I can use them to model or use model from the web and generate the X3G files that eventually end up on the SD card for WANHAO Duplicator 4. These all make much more sense to me than ReplicatorG. but it is atrocious to use and I ma definitely not going to do any modelling with it. This works that is I can talk to the printer via USB and monitor temps, axis etc. However, I have had hard time to get the printer to talk to any of the available free software. Thus I believe it is not running Sailfish upgrade. My WANHAO Duplicator 4 comes with Firmware version 1.0 as displayed on the LCD However, after having spent some time on this group reading bits and bots I am left with some questions that I hope you might help me to answer and clarify. I kept an eye on ebay for sometime and eventually managed to buy a used WANHAO Duplicator 4 as I thought that would a relatively good printer although perhaps a bit on the old side but still very popular and with a fairly large number of posts and this group. I suppose this is the case for every beginner. I have just get started in the 3D Printing world and found myself a bit overwhelmed by the options available and the several differences between models, firmware, materials, etc.
